Wisconsin Pride **This is a made to order piece that does have a wait time.**
The Pride (Rainbow) Flag first appeared in 1978, when it was flown during the San Francisco Gay and Lesbian Freedom Day Parade. Gilbert Baker, a San Francisco artist, designed the rainbow flag in response to a need for a symbol that could be used year after year. Baker borrowed symbolism from the civil rights and hippie movements, and created a flag that has gained worldwide recognition. The original flag featured 8 colors, each with a distinct meaning assigned by Baker: Hot pink (Sex), Red (Life), Orange (Healing), Yellow (Sunlight), Green (Nature), Turquoise (Magic/Art), Indigo (Serenity), Violet (Spirit).
Material: Stained for this piece:
Buechner farm in Cross Plains, Wis. Vic Seaman, of Seaman Lumber, bought the farm in Cross Plains in 1936 and sold it to his daughter and her husband, Edith and Florian Buechner in 1948. The farm produced corn, alfalfa, oats, pigs, chickens and 30 milking cows. The boards are from the hog house and were reclaimed in partnership with the Village of Cross Plains. This property is now Baer Park.
Backing: Siding from the Olson farm, Deerfield. Retired from Einar Olson’s infamous tobacco barn that lived only feet away from the original Wis. Routes 12 and 18 halfway between Madison and Cambridge. This barn was noted as one of the reasons for the reconstruction and moving of the road, as it stood victim to countless car accidents from bad weather conditions. Retired in 2015.
This piece is founded on an ecological principle of upcycling Wisconsin’s proud heritage and landscape into functional art for future generations, preserving the history of these buildings while bringing awareness to the need for us all to think before we consume. Every piece starts with a question; how can I transform material slated for refuse into beauty, value and a new life in our community?
The story of the family history is on the back. As always 100% locally reclaimed barn wood. Signed and numbered. Comes with a reclaimed nail so you can mark your favorite spot in Wisco... Hometown, cabin or special moment.
